The Sims 4 February 2026 Update: Staircase Improvements and New Bugs
In the latest February 3, 2026 update for The Sims 4 base game, players gained more control over staircase creation. Now you can choose which side the railings go on, adjust their length, and customize the style of stairs for different builds. But not everything is perfect — new bugs have also appeared. In this article, we’ll take a detailed look at the updated stair options and the issues that came with the patch.
Staircase Updates in The Sims 4
The first notable improvement is that railings no longer get stuck in walls! Players can now select which side to place them on:
And if a section of the staircase doesn’t need railings, they can be moved or removed:
Another interesting feature is the ability to expand the base of the staircase. This gives spaces a more aristocratic look, especially if you’re building a palace or a royal reception hall. Each side can be extended independently:
New Bug in Older Saves
Of course, updates don’t just fix problems — sometimes they create new ones. This time, the issue affects all stairs in older saves: railings have disappeared. The bug has flooded the forums with screenshots.
Players report that this affects both player-built lots and lots downloaded from the Gallery:
"Any lots created before the February 3 update that had railings on stairs no longer have them after the update. This applies to all pre-made lots, Gallery lots, and saved games. Any lots created by players or Maxis before the patch no longer have railings. This also affects existing saves when the lot is loaded in the neighborhood."
Forum user karaiarai notes that the problem does not affect lots built after the update or lots edited and saved post-patch. Lots saved to the Gallery after the update display stair railings correctly. It appears that the issue is limited to railings on stairs created before the patch, pointing to a problem with how older staircase data is handled in the new system.
As a result, players need to manually add railings to affected lots or wait for a fix in a future update.
Developer Comment
After active discussions, the official account @TheSimsDirect on X provided a statement about the situation:
"Simmers! We’re finishing final testing on a fix for the missing railings issue. If all goes well, the fix will be released in a small patch on February 12. We’ll confirm as soon as it’s fully ready."
For now, players will need to manually add railings where necessary. In the meantime, you can read about other changes in the latest update in our article.
